It's important to channel his energy through mentally challenging activity and exercise or he will become bored. A bored Brittany may become destructive by nervously chewing and destroying whatever is around him.
Brittany dogs are good-natured and good with children. They are also good with other dogs and animals if properly socialized and trained as a puppy. He is a kind-hearted dog and not recommended to be used as a guard dog.
The Brittany Spaniel is a hard-working dog with an acute sense of smell capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions and particularly appreciated for his ability to both point and retrieve his prey.
Although recommended for novice handlers, as an owner, you will quickly learn that your Brittany will be more than willing to work with you...but not for you. In his mind he is your equal and will expect to be treated as such.
